Tips For Everyday Healthy Cooking With Organic Meats

The easiest way to make organic meat part of a healthy diet is to practice cooking for yourself - not just on special occasions, but for everyday meals.

Everyday home cooking is a good strategy for staying healthy, not only because you can choose high-quality ingredients such as organic meats, organic vegetables and whole grains, but also because you will naturally consume fresher, less processed foods. Plus, when you’re the chef, you can control your daily intake of fat, sugar and salt.

Cooking for yourself: why and how

We’ve got some pointers on how to make cooking for yourself fun and painless, plus some easy recipes featuring organic beef, chicken and pork. But first, a quick note about why getting into the kitchen is so important. Take a look at the CDC’s Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion website, and you’ll find many alarming statistics, as well as this reminder:

Although chronic diseases are among the most common and costly health problems, they are also among the most preventable.

Too much bad food is contributing to the rise in Americans’ chronic health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Eating well - along with other good habits like physical activity - can prevent or control the effects of these diseases.

We were inspired by Micheal Pollan’s article that appeared this summer in the New York Times magazine, titled Out of the Kitchen, Onto the Couch. He makes the excellent point that we spend a lot of time watching cooking shows, but not a lot of time cooking for ourselves…and relying heavily on packaged foods that save time but may add to our waistlines.

So why not get off the couch and get into the kitchen again? Bring along your favorite organic meats, vegetables, fruits, spices… and try these strategies for getting inspired.

1. Stock your kitchen

It helps to have basic ingredients on hand. Be sure to have the most common spices (basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, cinnamon, sea salt and pepper, to start) in your cupboard, as well as canned tomatoes, beans, vinegars and oils. Buy onions, garlic and potatoes ahead since they keep well. And keep your freezer full of good quality organic meats and vegetables you like, such as organic chicken breasts, organic steaks, chopped spinach and corn.

2. Make it a party

Cook with friends or family members whenever possible, giving everyone different tasks. Kids love jobs like peeling garlic or grating cheese, and even the most reluctant chef should be willing to chop a vegetable or two. Put on some music, pour some wine…whatever makes ordinary weekday cooking feel festive and fun.

3. Splurge a little

Cooking at home can save you a lot of money over time, especially if you’re in the habit of eating restaurant meals a lot. So, if you’re switching to scratch cooking, don’t be afraid to invest in really good ingredients - you’ll notice the difference! A fine grass-fed ribeye steak doesn’t need much except salt and pepper, and a fresh spring mix from the farmer’s market can taste delicious with just a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Generally, the better the quality, the less work you need to do in the kitchen.

4. Find recipes that match your lifestyle

If you usually have only 30 or minutes to prepare dinner in the evening, you don’t want to tackle a two-page recipe for authentic Italian lasagna. Buy a few recipe books that focus on everyday cooking for home chefs. And search online at places like epicurious website, which allow you to filter “easy” recipes.

5 Reasons To Buy Organic Chicken

October 29, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

When it’s not cooked well, chicken can be a terrible disappointment. Need we mention the famous “rubber chicken” you sometimes get at buffets on in airplane meals?

But with just a little care and attention, chicken can be an amazingly easy, versatile ingredient in any kind of meal. Chicken sausage, marinated and grilled chicken breast, stir-fried chicken with spicy Asian sauce, breaded Italian chicken cutlets…the possibilities are as varied as they are delicious.

Better yet, chicken is naturally low in fat and calories, so it naturally fits today’s more health-conscious lifestyles. Toss that grilled chicken breast on a bed of leafy greens, and you can sit down to enjoy a meal without worrying about your waistline.

If you eat chicken often - and many Americans do - choosing organic chicken can help you feel even better about your healthy diet. Plus, it can give you peace of mind to know that the animals and the earth benefit from organic farming practices.

Here are five good reasons to buy organic chicken:

1. Tried and true.

For the majority of human history, organic chicken was all you could get! It was just plain old chicken, naturally free range - and free of things like synthetic hormones. High-tech industrial farming changed all that. Now, more and more research suggests that we’re better off following the traditions that were handed down through generations of small family farms. Check out the recent report by the Pew Commission on Industrial Farm Animal Production (PCIFAP) regarding the impact of industrial farming practices on public health.

2. Rigorous standards.

Organic farms are inspected by a government-approved certifier to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic meats must be certified, too. If you buy chicken with an organic label, you can be assured that qualified inspectors are keeping a close eye on how that chicken was raised and processed.

3. No hormones, antibiotics or GMOs.

Organic chickens are never given antibiotics or synthetic hormones. Their feed is organic and vegetarian. Organic farmers cannot raise genetically modified crops or livestock or use production aids that are genetically modified.

4. More humane farming practices.

Animals on certified organic farms are raised with special attention to their health and wellbeing. They have access to fresh air, sunshine, and the outdoors. Organically raised animals grow at their own natural pace, with no artificial hormones. By following free-ranging or free-grazing practices, organic farms not only treat animals more humanely, but also improve the animals’ health and reduce stress.

5. Better for the environment.

Certified organic farmers do no use most conventional pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, bioengineering, or ionizing radiation. Organic agricultural practices prevent pesticides and other chemicals from getting into the air, earth and water that sustain us. They also replenish and build healthy soil. Organic farmers emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations.

Home Beer Brewing Secrets Review

October 24, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

Alright so I just finished reading over the Home Beer Brewing Secrets eBook. This guide is actually the best one I have purchased on this topic. It was filled with explanations and a full step by step guide that I needed.

There were many sections to this eBook. It starts off with the explanation of what is in beer and how beer tastes like it does. The book also goes over how many home beer brewing kits fail to even make beer. The eBook does talk about one tool in particular that will help stop your beer from spoiling, and it’s so simple you’ll laugh when you read it. I honestly didn’t even realize it. I’m not going to tell you here obviously but you will find out when you read Home Beer Brewing Secrets.

The eBook also goes into how to pair beer with certain foods. Normally you think you can only pair wine up with a meal, but this guide will turn you into a beer connoisseur, you will know exactly what types of beer to drink with what meal.

Another important aspect this home beer brewing guide covers is how to properly store your home brew. After you brew your beer at home, or make beer at home, you will need to know how to store it properly.

Aside from the regular beer making steps, this guide goes over and beyond the normal. Home Beer Brewing Secrets talks about the history of beer, some tips on how to drink and enjoy beer responsibly, proper beer tasting techniques, and even how beer may be healthy for you.

Honestly if you’re sick and tired of paying an arm and a leg for “premium beer” then you should check out this make beer at home guide. Before you know it you will have your own home brewery and you’ll be making all the premium brands for pennies on the dollar.

Home Beer Brewing

October 22, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

Beer is one of the most prevalent drink that dates back to as old as Neolithic age. The beer brewing activity is becoming increasingly famous at domestic level. I should rather say that it has been taken as a hobby work shop by many beer lovers. No doubt a rich drink is what you get in home beer brewing that is really incomparable to all the tastes. All you need to have is a good knowledge of the preparation that is needed for the same.

Among the beer enthusiasts this activity is becoming well-liked day by day. Home brewing may include brewing of beer, wine and cider. For the unknown this can be a black art but believe me this process of turning grains, water, yeast and hops into beer is really an easy and simple one.  Rather the heroes in the whole process are the yeast cells that lead to a rich yield of a good beer. The activity may include seven basic steps: Mashing, Lautering, Boling, Fermenting, Conditioning, Filtering and Filling.

There are various home brewing kits available for this purpose that can help you    in making the beer in an easier and convenient way. These kits usually provide a liquid or dry malt extract, yeast or the hop extract. These when reconstituted with water produce wort. It is the easiest method available as this doesn’t require boiling or other preparatory methods. You can add sugar according to your liking.

Though these kits can meet the standards as of a commercial beer but they are definitely not as good as the beer that is home brew made from all grain methods and malt extract. The real flavor of beer does lies in the indigenous methods adopted in its making.

Brewing beer at home can be exciting and cheaper than its commercial equivalents. You can yield a beer according to your taste and liking. It is environment friendly as it uses less packaging materials and transportation. There are various information sites available where you can get relevant step by step information about the home made brewing. This will definitely help you in learning this process in an easier style.

This article is surely going to help you in learning about the various practices that are involved with home beer brewing. Enjoy your favorite drink with your friends and family and have an added talent that is completely yours.

Learn how to find out about all the secrets of making a better home beer brewing.

How To Select a Top Notch Menu for a Bridal Shower

October 20, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

Depending on the kind of bridal shower that you are planning and who will be attending, selecting the menu may be a pleasant experience, or a daunting one. You are fortunate in that there is a vast assortment of appropriate foods that you may use, making meeting everyone’s needs much less challenging than you expected. You should take into consideration several aspects including: the bride, the guests, and your budget, when making your menu selections.

Obviously, the bride should be the primary person to be considered when selecting the food offerings for her shower. If the foods chosen are foods that the bride dislikes, she probably will not be able to enjoy her own bridal shower. She may have subtly mentioned items that she would like to see served, or you may know what she likes to eat. This will make choosing a menu easier. If you are the hostess, you should be well aware of what foods she will find enjoyable.

The next item to consider is the guest list. Here you have a couple of matters to address. First of all, taking into consideration the bride’s likes and dislikes should not entirely dictate the menu. If the bride is the only one who will eat the food, that will not make for a very festive party. There will be many hungry people for you to contend with. In the case that the top menu choice of the bride is an item that no one else at the party will eat, you may think about opting for her second favorite and not serving the first at the bridal shower. You will also need to keep in mind the individual requirements of attending guests.

You may have guests on your list who are allergic to certain items or have dietary restrictions. You do not want to offer a menu filled with sweet foods, if you will be entertaining diabetic guests. Likewise, a menu predominately comprised of meats would not be appetizing to vegetarians. The object is to provide sufficient variety such that everyone there will have enjoyable choices, even if there are some items which people just do not like.

You will certainly need to plan a bridal shower that falls within your budget constraints. The bride may desire caviar and champagne, but your financial resources may only allow tuna and apple cider. You can try to develop the menu using foods that you might typically purchase for your family. You might limit the purchase of these items for special occasions, but don’t spend a lot of money on foods you would never otherwise purchase.

You can look at planning the bridal shower menu much as you would look at preparing a menu for a get together at your home. Special arrangements should be made for the guest of honor, for your bridal shower, that would be the bride. Remember to take into account your guests’ preferences and any individual special needs. Don’t lose sight of your budget constraints, and buy food items that your finances will accommodate without leaving yourself short for necessary items. Planning a bridal shower can be a challenging task, but limiting the complexity of your menu will make your whole party much smoother.

Wine Sales Online - An Introduction

October 17, 2009 | By admin In Food and Drink | Comments(0)

Buying things online always seems to concern some people, especially those not so familiar with how the internet works and how safe it generally is now.? The mere idea of putting a credit card number into a computer is not something contemplated.? Daily, millions of dollars are being passed around without a worry in the world because of the improvement in security over the years.

Online wine sales have always been, and will continue to be treated with “raised eyebrows” by some within the industry.? I personally don’t have a problem buying wine online, especially wine that I’ve tried previously because I know exactly what I’m getting.

One great way of being informed of things happening in the industry, as well as being presented with great bargains, is to sign up to mailing lists.? There’s no limit to the amount of mailing lists you sign up for.

Wine sales sites are many and varied.? It can take a fair amount of time to trawl through the many different sites to find exactly what you’re wanting.? The best way to go about this is to start by looking for your favourite wines, then your favourite wineries, then your favourite regions.? You can even research for a combination of wineries and varietal, or regions and varietal.? You’re bound to find what you’re looking for.

Wine sales sites can include any of these types:
1. Wine direct from the winery from their own website.
2. Wine direct from the winery via an affiliate website that takes commission from the winery for the sale.
3. Companies that buy the wine from the winery, then on sell it via their website.
4. Auction houses which sell off stock no longer required from the winery or garnered through special deals.

Wine being purchased from a wine auction should be treated with some caution though.? The problem with buying older style wines from auction houses is knowing how the wine has been stored over time.

The best places to buy wine online are through companies that stock a variety of wine which is of the newest vintage as you really can’t go wrong.? Most of the sites have a guarantee on quality so there should never be a problem.

Buying wine online shouldn’t be a stressful affair.? Buying online should either be an extension of a vineyard trip you’ve already had, while also providing you with great value.

This is just a bit of information to help ease the worries of some people about buying things over the internet, especially wine.? More and more quality wine sites are popping up often, so why not give it a try from the comforts of home?

Purchasing things online has always concerned people, especially those without knowledge of the intricacies of the internet.? Mention handing out a credit card number to people and they cringe.? Wine being sold over the internet has been met with some reluctance over the years as well.? That perception is slowly changing because people are finding that the wine they are purchasing is mostly of top quality.

One great way of being informed of things happening in the industry, as well as being presented with great bargains, is to sign up to mailing lists.? Sign up to one, sign up to many, there’s no limit.

Wine sales sites are many and varied.? It can take sometime to trawl through the many different sites to find exactly what you’re wanting.? You can even research for a combination of wineries and grape, or regions and grape.? You’re bound to find what you’re looking for.

Wine sales websites are varied from site to site, but fall into certain categories which include:

Auctioned wine can be a little hit and miss as there is no guarantee how the wine has been stored.? One problem with wine auctions is not always knowing how and/or trusting where the wine has been stored.

Depending on choice, the best sites to purchase wine online from are those that stock the latest vintages.? Most of the sites have a guarantee on quality so there should never be a problem.

Dining and Nightlife website launches in Rhode Island

October 15, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

TonightInRI, has officially launched to the public. The site acts as an aggregator of information for RI restaurants, RI nightlife, and more. Tonight in RI is the only website that allows Rhode Island’s bar, nightclub and restaurants update their own profiles, which allows our site’s users to get reliable information about where they want to go tonight.

So far, 60 RI restaurants actively update their profiles. TonightInRI spokesmen have stated that they do plan on capping the amount of venues in the future.

“We listen to a lot of different people, and we learn about various places Rhode Islanders truly enjoy, and visit most frequently,” stated Joshua Unseth, the site’s director of Online Marketing “Our goal is to include the State’s top venues on our site, with the basis being grounded in a running conversation with Rhode Islanders. Our goal is to continuously please them by having their favorite establishments on the site. That’s what we mean by ‘premier.’”

Rhode Island is well known for its wonderful dining. TonightInRI is a great way for any diner to explore RI restaurants.

“The site provides me with a very simple way to display my information, and push it out to people via the internet,” said Fred Goodwin, owner of Bravo Brasserie Restaurant in Downtown Providence. “It increases my web presence at a time when people are acquiring a lot of information from their laptops and cell phones.”

The dinner menus aren’t the only thing that restaurant owners have made available though. The site doesn’t just focus on RI’s dining scene though. The site, as its name suggests, has a strong focus on RI’s nightlife and bar scene too. TonightInRI has information on bars from Naragansett, Providence, and the rest of the state.

As social media is increasingly being used by individuals and businesses alike, TonightInRI fulfills an important niche - social media for bars.

“We utilize all the latest forms of social media to promote TonightInRI and our member venues,” said Kyle Rowley, one of the site’s creators. “And at the same time, our site allows the members to step out of the noise of Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter, and into a space designed specifically for them and their target audience.”

In a slumping economy marked by double-digit unemployment, Rhode Islanders are turning to the site to find deals and discounts at local establishments. The site’s most popular pages are those dedicated to individual bars and restaurants where owners and managers display their venue’s deals, special events, and capacity. Don Jose Tequilas, a Mexican restaurant on Federal Hill, boasts a three-course dinner special for only $19.99. Charlie O’s in Narragansett promotes free pool and $5 Bud pitchers.

According to The Nielsen Company’s data, the areas where people are primarily cutting back are gas, electricity, entertainment, and clothing. But they are also “shopping down” on food. People are eating at home more often than a year ago. But when they do go out, they are shopping for deals and eating at cheaper restaurants. TonightInRI helps users select the right venue for them.

The Amazing Can Opener Product

October 13, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

The invention of the tin can was a transformation in food preservation and it was in fact a British person Peter Durand who first came up with the idea in 1810. In 1795 Napoleon had offered a 12,000 cash award for a system of stopping food from going off. This was needed for the French army as food was suffering shortages. A man named, Nicolas Appert, was the person who won the French army award when he experimented in preserving food by sterilisation.

In 1813 the first industrial canning plant in Britain but their equipment could only assembly six cans per hour! Things didn’t get better on this number until 1846 when Henry Evans invented a machine that could make sixty cans in an hour - a huge improvement!

These original tins were so thick that they had to be smashed open, which of course made things quite tricky but in 1850s the first can opener was invented by Ezra Warner of Connecticut, and the US Navy used it during the Civil War. In 1866 J. Osterhoudt made the first key opened cans like you find on sardine cans.

The can opener that we know and recognise and tend to use in our homes today is the William Lyman opener which was patented in 1870 - this can opener rolls and cuts around the top of the can and the first electric version was produced in 1931. Thinking about it we have gone ages with no big improvements on the can opening front, and they are difficult to use for left-handed persons or those with strength problems due to diseases such as arthritis.

We have been used to the old style can opener for too long now that one could be forgiven for thinking that there would never be an another way. But it has finally it’s here!

JML LTD have made a easy to use can opener! Unbelievable as that sounds it does exactly what it says on the tin (sorry!). It is an automatic and electric can opener , which offers a single touch action. You don’t have to use brute strength, curse when the ring pulls off or end up cutting your finger. It produces no dangerously sharp edges and is fast, easy to use and is definitely hassle free. As well as all that (yes, it does get even better) it can be used for any kind of tin - if it has a ring pull on it or even if the can is square! It is sanitary, being easy to wash and it and even looks ultra modern, being of ergonomic design - it doesn’t take over the whole of your kitchen drawer!

It is fast, clean, easy and holds a magnet which enables you to dispose of the lid mess! No more prune juice all over the sideboard then! It is perfect for those with limited hand mobility or arthritis as it automatically opens the can with just one touch. Now Mr. Durand can rest in peace knowing that justice has been done for his brilliant design!

Looking for that JML can opener? Look no further, SeenOnTV.me.uk has the full low down on this amazing JML product.
