Beer Brewing Guide

There are a few simple points that, if kept in mind, will ensure that you get the most from your home beer brewing and are able to impress your friends with your manufactured product.

Temperature – Make sure that the complete brewing process is carried out at a constant temperature (or at least a narrow range of temperatures).

No sugar – Avoid using ordinary sugar in the starch as it can lead to undesirable taste. Use malt, dextrose, corn syrup, or a combination of all these for a better brew.

Yeast – Add the yeast at the right temperature. 24 degrees is generally the best temperature. Do not, in any case, add the yeast if the temperature is above 32 degrees as the yeast would die off.

All About Home Made Beer

What’s one of the most popular drinks in the world? You’ve guessed it, Beer. Why is that so? I remember when I first drank it I almost spewed. Much the same when I smoked my first cigarette, I felt as sick as a dog. So why did we do it? Peer pressure I suppose, but still, I think it tastes great now and that’s what got me into home made beer. It is almost a cult for some people now. They even have clubs where they can take their latest brew for sampling and of course showing off.

Unfortunately not all home made beers are equal as some of you may have found out when your mate proudly presented you with a mug of his home brew. UGG. Much the same as some home made wine fanatics. So why do people make home brew beer? Well maybe because it’s cheaper that buying the stuff, maybe it’s their great hobby.

Whatever it is there are some great home beer makers out there and I have tasted a few. Whatever the reason it is a great relaxing hobby with a great supping reward. It’s not expensive as some hobbies go and it’s great fun. It is no wonder that it’s very popular as you get a great feeling of achievement when you pour your drop of home made beer. (no matter how horrible it tastes when you first start off). Let’s face it any new hobby has a learning phase when you first start.

One of the great things about home made beer is that you can drink it without any of the additives that are put into the commercial beers. Just about every beer you buy has been pasteurized this means the beer is ‘cooked’ which kills the yeast whereas home made beer contains live yeast which gives your home brew a more natural taste.

The initial cost of buying the equipment you need to start making your own beer is quickly recovered after your first couple of batches of brewing. Most people who start home brewing are fed up with paying the bills for their beer. Home made beer brewing can fix up the cost of beer. Buying  the ingredients for a 5 gallon batch can range from $25 to $45 depending on the type of beer you wish to make. Other costs such as bottles are around $12 for a case of 24 12 oz bottles. Of course these can be reused time and time again.

Home made beer brewing is catching on fast and is not really difficult to start you just have to follow the steps and not attempt to experiment until you have got the basics off pat. It is usually best to start of with a kit. Essentially there are only six basic steps to making your home made beer.

1. Making wort or must.

2. Fermentation.

3. Clarifying.

4. Conditioning

5. Packaging.

6. Drinking.

Brewing can take from two weeks to several months depending on the type of beer you wish to make. Usually you will have several batches going starting at different times especially for the longer brewing styles of beer.

Home made beer is not difficult, especially if you first start with a brewing kit. So go ahead and make your own beer and enjoy.

If you really want to get ahead fast I recommend a couple of e-books that will help you enormously. You can preview them by going to my blog.

Different Drinks for Different People

Have you ever bought a cup of coffee and found that the taste is not to your liking? You wanted to throw it away but then you remembered you paid a few dollars for that cheesy cup of coffee! So you drank the whole cup even though the taste didn’t really appeal to you.

This is not a problem that is unique or uncommon. It can happen to anyone. You see, the problem lies in the brewing process, and the choice of drink mix. When you buy a latte or a mocha from a cafe, you are buying a drink that is produced using a standard brewing process. Here is where the problem arises.

If you are an avid coffee drinker, you know that it is possible to produce many different types of tastes. You use a coffee powder that is well roasted for a stronger fragrance. Or you can choose to use a powder that has a lighter flavor so that your drink don’t come out too strong.

But you can’t really customize your drinks at a cafe can you? So the only option here is to brew coffees of teas yourself. This is not a really good option in the past because there is no easy way to brew coffees of teas without going into too much hassle.

Fortunately, Flavia has come up with the ideal solution. You can now have your favorite drink within minutes. The magic is all in the system. Here is how it works.

First, you need to purchase a Flavia Fusion Drink Station. This is no ordinary coffee maker. The design itself is ingenious. The drink is produced from a pack to cup. This means that there is no for washing or changing of filters in between drinks. You start by choosing the type of drink that you want to make, then load in the appropriate filter packs. The brewer has a detachable water tank at the back. Hot water is then mixed with the contents in the filter packs to produce the drinks.

In other words, the same brewer can be used to create many different types of drinks. If you visit the Flavia’s official website, you will see that there are many different types of drinks that you can choose from. These range from more traditional coffees to special drinks like Milkyway swirl or Mars swirl.

You can have a Flavia Fusion System in your home or office, then load up on the filter packs. Make sure that you have at least 3 types of drinks available - one coffee, one tea, and one chocolate. When guests arrive, you are confident that there will be something that is ideal for your guests.

Machines come in 3 sizes - 1 to 5 people, 5 to 30 people, and 30 people and above. The larger the machine, the bigger the water tank. With a larger water tank, you can make more drinks without having to worry about the tank running out of water.

Now you can have gourmet coffee at home or at work, without having to pay exorbitant prices. The best part is, you are sure that the taste of the drink is what you really wanted!

The Flavia Single Cup Brewing System

August 20, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

Coffee and tea are very popular drinks that almost everyone enjoy. You can find these drinks in homes, offices, hotel lobbies, etc. Traditionally, brewing coffee and tea requires special skills. For example, if you want to make yourself a cup of mochaccino, you will need to have the exact recipe.

The problem with this approach is that not everyone has the skills and time to make a special drink like that. And that’s just one drink. There are other drinks like gourmet coffee, cappuccinos, lattes, and so on. In addition, it’s not very practical to create such drinks manually especially if you have a large of people.

To overcome these challenges, Flavia has come up with simple and practical solutions. Brewers are the solutions to the challenges. Brewers are special machines that are programmed to mix and create special drinks. Note that a brewer does not work the same way as an ordinary coffee maker. If you are using a coffee maker, you are still relying on your own brewing skills. But if you are using a brewer, you can rely completely on the machine to produce the drinks that you want.

So what exactly is a single cup brewing system?

The coffee brewer already “knows” how to brew the coffee that you want. All you have to do is to fill the brewer up with the right coffee or tea powder. There is no need to cleaning between drinks.

No cleaning is required because the process is so simple. Start by placing a cup on the brewer machine. Choose your options. The machine will then prompt you to insert the Filterpacks accordingly. Once the Filterpacks have been inserted, the brewing process starts and you get your drink in a few minutes! In other words, the process involves brewing directly from pack to cup. That is why no cleaning is required between drinks.

The key benefit for using the Flavia single cup brewing system is that you can consistency. No human being can make 30 cups of coffee and have the coffee taste exactly the same every time. Only a machine can do that. So you don’t have to worry about taste inconsistencies. The coffee will turn out right every single time. It doesn’t matter if you make just 1 cup or 30 cups, the quality will be consistent.

There are different models that you can choose from. You can choose a brewer that makes coffee for 1 to 5 people, 5 to 30 people, or more than 30 people. It all depends on your own needs. For instance, if you need a brewer for a family of 5, then the smallest model will do just fine. But if you need a brewer for your workplace, then you need at least a medium sized brewer.

All the models can be used to make different drinks, and the process of brewing is similar - from pack to cup. The main difference lies in the size of the water tank. Obviously, the model that can make the most number of drinks have the largest water tank. The water tank is detachable for refilling.

Homebrew Kegging Systems Keep Your Hard Work Fresh

July 7, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

There are several things that may concern you if you are a home brewer or are just curious about the process. First, you do not want to wait six weeks to find out what your beer will taste like. Second, you do not want to waste extra storage space with bottles.

Fortunately, neither of these need to be a problem any longer. Not only is there a most space and cost effective way to brew your own drinks at home, you may open to the methods used in kegging as well.

The biggest benefit to creating beer on tap instead of bottles is that you can use your kegerator at home for your own beer instead of buying a keg. You also do not need to purchase much to get started either.

Almost all homebrew kegging systems are similar in regards to what they supply. The first thing you need is a corny keg. This keg is stainless steel and was named after the Cornelius Company which was the company that created it.

The kegs have been in existence for decades and have served as the carbonated drink dispenser much longer than any other type of keg. They are very common and work very efficiently. This is normally the keg that you will receive when buying a home brewing kit.

You should also receive a double gauge regulator which has a shut off valve. You should also receive standard CO2 tubing as well as clamps, these ball styled disconnects are standard on every pressurized unit and the tap as well as the tubing should be included with it.

Different kits have different levels of quality and the difference tends to be negligible.

This is important when transferring the beer to a second sanitary keg later in the process.

If you keep your eye out, specific kits will include pin lock kegs. These are kegs which lock and disconnect by twisting the collar. This is much less frustrating than using ball lock kegs because it is much easier to tell when your lines are locked. Most ball lock kegs function just fine, but a pin lock keg will give you options which may fit your personal preferences when deciding on what kegging system you want to use.

Every single kit will have slightly different instructions on the setup process as well as how it is used and cleaned. Make sure to pay close attention to the instructions as each kit will have small, but important differences.

If you are new to home brewing, then an additional resources may be a worthwhile purchase to keep you from feeling intimidated. There are many options which can get you started down the road to brewing your own beer, ales or laagers. By using a homebrew kegging system, you will finally be able to save yourself tons of headaches and storage space by going straight from the brewing to kegging. This cuts out the bottling time as well as the waiting time.

Cleaning Beer Lines Keeps Your Brew Fresh

June 30, 2009 | By admin In Home Brewing | Comments(0)

Anyone who owns a kegerator knows the importance of keeping it sanitary. Each time that you take a draw from your kegerator, the lines are slowly building up with beer stones as well as yeast, both of which leads to a very unsanitary condition. This surface is a perfect breeding ground for bacteria and mold. At the least, this can lead to an off taste in the beer and at the worst it could cause serious problems for anyone who drinks beer that has passed through these lines.
This is why cleaning your beer lines is a vital task for every kegerator owner. This will make sure that both you and your friends are always drinking beer that is pure and safe. The problem is that most people do not know how exactly to do this and do this effectively.
With every kegerator, there is a certain amount of responsibility and maintenance that is required. Fortunately, cleaning your beer lines is a very quick process and is great to ensure that your lines are sanitary and functioning properly.
There are many different cleaning kits available for purchase, but they will almost always recommend the same cleaning schedule. If you do not use your kegerator on a consistent basis then you should make sure to clean the lines before each use.The easy thing to remember is that it is impossible to get your lines to clean.
This process is not difficult or complicated once you know what you are doing. The bonus is that with the right cleaning kit, you will be provided with everything that you need. With these kits you will get a container filled with a combination of water and a cleaning solution which will be used to clean and sanitize your lines. The pump on the kegerator should be used to force the cleaning solution through the lines and will help you to remove the buildup that exists in your lines.
Make sure that you are soaking your lines with the cleaning solution as recommended by the kit.
Additional components such as, the faucet and tap should be soaked and rinsed as well. You may also want to use a brush to scrub them as well. If you are stuck only cleaning the lines, then you are still pushing clean beer through a dirty tap and you gain nothing from cleaning the lines, as you are still ruining the beer.
When your kegerator is apart from the lines, take some time to do some other basic maintenance as well. Take this time to inspect all of the o-rings and make sure that their seal is working correctly. Also take time to make sure that the coupling washer, friction washer, and the shaft seat are working properly as well. You should also use a lubricant, food grade lubricant if possible, to coat the probe o-rings and the keg coupler.
However, if you fail in this regard, then you will understand what bad beer really tastes like.
You can easily avoid the embarrassment of serving rancid beer to guests and avoid possible health concerns as well. All you need to do is use proper maintenance techniques as well as keeping to a strict cleaning schedule will ensure that you will always have the best tasting beer available.
